Publisher blurb:
In the year 4024, Christmas is everywhere. Santa Claus rules the world and the Big Day happens EVERY DAY! There are holographic elves to grant your wishes, travel is by flying sleigh, and all food is served as candy canes, in any flavour you can imagine!
Not everyone gets to celebrate 24/7 though. Gryla Garland is a witch banished to the Mince Pie Isles, where Christmas comes but once a year. All she's ever wished for is to join the festive world.
But when Santa's daughter, Merrilee Claus, comes crashing into her life, Gryla realises Christmas every day might not be such a good thing after all. With the real magic of Christmas long forgotten, it's up to Gryla, Merrilee and a lot of sprouts, to bring the magic back …
My review (spoiler-free!):
I loved the author's previous Christmas themed story, Tinsel, and was glad to see nods to it in this new adventure! Full of fun, festive references to other cultures and stories, clever names and Christmas-themed links, it sees Gryla facing challenges of standing up for what's right and friendship, even it means that comes at the expense of celebrating Christmas every day! Banished to the Mince Pie Isles, Gryla wishes to be able to be as festive as others in the future, Santa-ruled world, but comes to realise that maybe there can be such a thing as too much merry-making and festive fun!
Lots of fun - festive, tinsel-furred speaking cats especially - this is a cracker of a book (sorry....couldn't resist a Christmas-themed pun after reading it!) and would make a perfect gift for the reader in your house in the run up to our very own (and our one and only!) Christmas Day.
